Having a healthy self esteem means having a good
self opinion and valuing our personal worth. It embraces such definitions as
have a positive attitude, valuing ourselves highly, having confidence in our abilities
and seeing ourselves as competent and able in life.
Low self esteem can mean feeling helpless,
powerless and can lead to depression, poor health and a lack of positive feelings
about our future and dreams.
Self Esteem & Relationships
When our self esteem is low we tend to think we are less deserving than others and believe that they have certain rights and privilages that we are not entitled to.
This can lead to us taking on too much responsibilty at home and in the workplace, under valuing our contributions becuase we do not feel we are good enough and accepting behaviour that can even be abusive because we beleive we deserve it or feel wrong for expecting to be treated with respect.
Therefore it is vitaly important that your self esteem is in a good place, so that you can forge ahead with your life goals and pursue healthy and mutually satisfying relationships.
If you realise that your self esteem is low you can rebuild it with the right help and support.
